Udavum Karangal
India has about 11 million children who are homeless. It’s a heart rending experience to come across a few of them huddled in street platforms or walking across traffic signals asking for money or doing odd chores to earn some bread. Udavum Karangal, is a social organization started by Vidyakar for such children, destitute women and mentally ill people who have been disowned by their families. The organization provides them right food and living habits, medication, a healthy life style and education to children at their own school.
These children face emotional issues like anger, pain, hurt associated with their birth, an obscurity of the past, loneliness and insecurity arising from not being loved. These obstructions do not allow them to accommodate themselves in the normal world.
OWA Foundation has been interacting with these young adults and children towards ensuring greater emotional, psychological and spiritual wellbeing. We have been able to impact the children in a massive way by helping them learn, assimilate and share knowledge; they are happier individuals who are able to harness their real potentials. The faculty has also been interacting with a group of 30 children over 6 months and their stories of emotional healing, discovering their passion, first experience of connecting to their higher self or the divine presence is amazing. We aim to bring forth nobler qualities of compassion, empathy, gratitude, love and above all happiness in their entire community.

The support of One World Academy has been phenomenal. They have helped us transform lives. Radhikaji and Arpithaji worked tirelessly with the teenagers of Udavum Karangal and instilled not only self-confidence and purpose in life but also taught them to be better human beings. They also guided the Housemothers and helped them to be good mentors to the children. They brought a deep understanding between the housemothers, volunteers and the children. To sum it up, they helped to spread love.
In terms of monetary needs One World Academy has been a pillar of support. Whenever a dire need arose they are ready to lend a helping hand. By providing education to 100 of our children they are helping them see hope for a brighter future. Krishnaji introduced us to well-wishers like Mr. Khemka who have been spontaneous in their benevolence. Little Lokaa, decided to provide popcorn and lemonade to the children and raise money for the children of Udavum Karangal. Merely six years, her commitment and belief that she could make a difference in the lives of others is seen to be believed. Happy hearts, happy world is a child’s dream. At a tender age she has grasped the meaning of life.
Last but not the least I would also like to thank Krishnaji for the moral and financial support that he has been providing us. Early in life I realized that an opportunity to serve God is to serve people and there will be numerous helping hands to help me in this Endeavour. Today One World Academy has joined the family of Udavum Karangal and is like a banyan tree shielding us. You only need a heart full of grace and a soul generated by love to serve.
