The OWA foundation’s passion to work with children and young people finds new expressions everyday.
Would you like to partner with us in bringing security, education and joy to a child who has been abandoned either at birth or later? ‘Help us help’, is an effort at reaching out to under privileged children by providing them support for their food, maintenance, education and emotional flowering.
We have decided to begin with sponsoring and mentoring 100 children at Udavum Karangal care home. Of these 100 children, 70 have special needs. The foundation intends to support their education, living and emotional development so long as these children need it. Our faculty regularly visits them, nurtures them with their love and wisdom.
Who are these children? Where do they live?
These children live at udavum karangal, which is a symbol of genuine love and service. All of these children were either found abandoned in some city or town in India or were left at the door steps of the care home usually with a note tucked in their clothes. These children need economic assistance to continue their studies and create a safe future for themselves.
What is the one world academy foundation’s relationship with these children?
Our relationship with them is one of a human being with his or her fellow human -being. We come from a place of love. The past few months we have been interacting with children from this home; leading them into exploring their emotions, helping them heal their hurts, getting them focused onto life and making them into happy individuals. We have been interacting with them in groups and also been helping them individually. We are committed towards helping these children grow into conscious, caring and happy individuals.
What does it take to sponsor a child?
To sponsor the education of one child it would require Rs.5,000 and another Rs. 5,000 per annum for their upkeep. You could choose to contribute for either education or upkeep or both. The choice is yours. Contribution whether minimal or massive would be most welcome.
How does the udavum karangal care for its children
Children are categorized based on their age and standard in which they are studying. Each section takes care of a small group of 8 to 10 children and caregivers provide special care and attention to the development of the children. All the children at the home go to school. Many of them need sponsors; apart from studies they are also encouraged to learn and participate in creative activities like drawing, painting, sports, music and dance. For few children the organization provides facilities that make them independent in spite of their physical disabilities. Majority of the children go to school and a few who have completed schooling are doing vocational training. Through initiatives in education; special education; training in driving, nursing, and computer proficiency; Udavum Karangal nurtures a child’s life, adds ability and hope to a youth’s future.( for more information on the home: www.udavumkarangal.org)
What would be your relationship be with the child you have sponsored?
Child sponsoring is not the same as adopting. Child sponsoring is the beginning of a unique relationship between you and a child, which can transform the future for both. Your support can give a needy child, life’s essential - his/her education. Sponsorship provides a ‘sense of security’ and ‘ sense of belonging’ to a child, and in return you will get the satisfaction of investing for a better individual, a better society. While guaranteeing a better future for a child through sponsorship you can also develop a bonding between the child and you by occasional visits, this would make a world of difference for an otherwise less fortunate child.

Individual child sponsors have the opportunity to choose a child (by gender and/or age) and to communicate with him or her as per your desire. This allows you, as an individual child sponsor, to connect with your sponsored child and to establish a friendship with him or her that will carry a special meaning for both of you.
Sponsorship Information & Guidelines
- You can inform us your preference like age, sex, able/disable, HIV + or special child.
- Based on your preference we will assign a child on your behalf.
- For better communication you will be given a “sponsor code” which will help you interact with the child.
- Long term/ continued sponsorship will provide a secured future and will yield better results.
- At any given time you can sponsor more than one child.
- " For a meaningful relationship you can communicate and interact with the child. Every visit of yours will bring a world of difference.

In 2011, OWA Foundation’s second year we aim to support the children of this organization by gathering sponsors for at least a 100 of their school going kids.
